About Our Speakers and Workshop Hosts

Ayra.jpg - 7.18 K Ayra is a High Priestess in the Celtic Witchcraft tradition of Scal Dare. She hosts open rituals, runs a training coven and also facilitates pub moots. She ran WitchyCon 2005 which was in a lovely atmospheric pub and WitchyCon 2006 which was at Wantage Civic Hall. She has given Goddess lectures since she was at university studying them and has always enjoyed bringing the subject to life through humour, information and engaging her audience. She has also lectured on being a priestess, how to make your own incense and spellcrafting. She lives in Oxfordshire and runs New Moon with her husband.

No Image By Request Rae Beth is a British author who has written on Paganism . Beth is associated with the Hedgewitch movement, a movement within contemporary neo-Paganism that champions pursuing Pagan practices as an individual, often following a solitary course, rather than attending covens . The name "Hedgewitch" implies that such Pagans are keen to gain allegiance with nature. Many people credit Rae Beth with the term "hedgewitch". Rae Beth has written many books including "Hedge Witch: Guide to Solitary Witchcraft", "The Hedge Witch's Way: Magical Spirituality for the Lone Spellcaster", "Spellcraft for Hedge Witches: A Guide to Healing Our Lives", "The Wiccan Way: Magical Spirituality for the Solitary Pagan", "Lamp of the Goddess", "The Wiccan Path: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner", and "Green Spirituality" with Rosa Romani and Poppy Palin.

AnnaF.jpg - 6.14 K Anna Franklin lives in a village in the heart of England where she grows her own food and tries to live the "good life". She was initiated 30 years ago and is the High Priestess of the Hearth of Arianrhod, of the Coranieied Clan, which runs teaching circles and postal courses as well as a working coven. She is the author of over 20 books on the Craft including the popular Sacred Circle Tarot, Midsummer, Lammas Fairy Lore, Herb Craft, Magical Incenses and Oils, Hearth Witch, A Romantic Guide to Handfasting and Familiars.

DC.jpg - 27.76 K DC (yes, that is the name he answers to in the pub) is a Scottish Heathen who has organised moots, groups and open rituals in Glasgow and Edinburgh, has spoken at various moots and Witchfest Scotland on Heathenry and polytheism, and helps to maintain contact between some of the various pagan groups Glasgow. Despite some distaste for organisations and committees, he is a founder member of the Association of Polytheist Traditions. He started stumbling along a pagan spiritual path something like fifteen years ago, but it was an embarrassingly long time before a god with a hammer finally got the message across about who his gods were. Although the primary focus of his spirituality is the Aesir, he has also been exploring contact with a couple of the local gods and goddesses. Most people think he is a little eccentric. Those who know him probably would not say "a little".

ralph.jpg - 6.37 K Ralph Harvey heads The Order of Artemis, which in itself encompasses over 200 covens worldwide, and he is an internationally acclaimed repository of information on the true ways of Witches past and present. Ralph represents the Old Tradition and the original ways of the Old Religion, as it was, going back way before the Roman invasion. His latest book, "The Last Bastion", explores the history of Witchcraft in England and especially in Sussex - the last county in England to embrace Christianity and the first to re-embrace Witchcraft once the Witchcraft Act was repealed in 1951. Ralph is regarded as one of the country's foremost Wiccan high priests. He is also an authority on the craft's legends, herbal and ancient cures, as well as the numerous events and incidents that have occurred over the centuries. Frequently referred to by the press, radio and TV media, and even at time the police, Ralph's level of knowledge is most useful in quashing rumours that arise out of inadequate knowledge of the real Wiccan ways; for example, that there is any connection whatsoever with satanism - a common misconception. A true Gentleman and priest of the Craft, Ralph is ably supported by his lovely wife of 50 years, Audrey - a priestess as well - and ever-loyal and charming Petra. Between them, they have revised, updated and reworked the more unrepresentative and outmoded craft ways , making a lean, dynamic and workable synthesis of Traditional and Gardnerian Crafts.

Rev. Martin Hazel

ania.jpg - 17.32 K Ania Marczyk first found an interest in the Tarot over 15 years ago. She joined the Tarot Association of the British Isles (TABI) as one of its first members and as well as being an Endorsed Reader and Mentor, has just been re-elected as Treasurer. As a regular Tarot reader for TABI, Ania attends a variety of events throughout the year and also offers email readings through one of her websites. Having moved away from a successful career in IT, she now runs her own business making beautiful bespoke garments and embroidered items.

merrym.jpg - 7.92 K Merry Metcalf has been a practicing hedgerow witch for the past 25 years. As a lone practitioner, you could best describe her approach to the Craft as a cross between Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg (but only if you've read Terry Pratchett). She lives in rural Derbyshire with her husband, Giles, five cats and some happy free-range chickens. Over the years she's taken a keen interest in making healing balms from natural ingredients and, recently, she's started to include hand and body lotions, using herbs, essential oils, beeswax and lanolin plus face scrubs and cleansing facepacks, all of them costing next to nothing whilst smelling and feeling divine! She won't be trying to sell you anything ... but she'll show you how to make your own goodies, at home, for a fraction of the cost of shop bought items. Either come to listen and watch or, if you want to try a hand at making your own goodies, please bring a small pestle and mortar plus a container for your chosen lotion or potion.

theresamoorey.jpg - 24.01 K Theresa Moorey has written over 40 books on witchcraft, astrology and the occult. Teresa is the regular astrologer for Here's Health magazine and Mizz magazine. She writes articles for More, Mother & Baby, Baby & You, Zest & 19. Her book 'Charmed Life' was one of Cosmopolitan Magazine's Books of the Month in January 2004. Teresa regularly gives talks and appears on TV and radio. She is a qualified astrologer, hypnotherapist and counsellor.

paulwood.jpg - 3.37 K Paul Wood is currently a student of Philosophy, Religion and Ethics at Heythrop (London univerisity), who has felt the pull of nature religion since before he can remember! Interests include the renaisance period for the development of magic and herbal healing, and the use of herbs and resins in healing and magic today. Has been using herbs in a magical way consciously since 7 years old when his first written herbal spell included runuculus acris, Lamium album, and oddly a wisker of a black cat!! (the first two are; buttercups and white dead nettles) Now, after 12 years of experience and the many texts of history regarding herbs and uses, including the very extensive renaissance material, feels he is up to the job of helping others through this feild, in a fun (he hopes) and intellectual workshop to using herbs in magic.
He 'lLikes squirells, can say squirells in polish, is interested in who makes the little rubber feet for the end of chair legs, and who had the idea... he is also interested in learning who made 'toe socks'.

peterY.jpg - 6.00 K Peter Yockney is an expert in Dragon Magick and after thrusting his sword boldly through the ceiling at the last venue, he's back to do it again properly this time. He will be giving a practical workshop on Dragon Magick and I know it'll fill fast. He lives with 3 cats, 2 kittens and over 20 domestic duckson a west Oxfordshire village with views of the Lambourn Downs. He has been studying the Craft and Magick for over 23 years and has been studying Dragon Magick for 17 of those years in one form or another. For the last more than 13 years, he has been a practicing Dragon Magician (if I have chosen the correct term for what he does). His interests include early and high Medieval history and pre-Roman histroy/archaeology, organic veggie gardening and doing things to make his neighbours think he's odd.
